Because God delights in worship that is biblical, thoughtful and passionate—what we often call intentional—please consider the following overview of the biblical texts and doctrinal themes behind the hymn “God Has Spoken”:

The Scriptures speak clearly of the progressive forms of self-revelation God has utilitized throughout history. God revealed Himself generally through creation, speaking all things into being and thereby revealing His existance, power, and glory (Genesis 1; Psalm 19; Romans 1:19-20). God spoke more clearly through the inspired Scriptures, telling not only of His existance but of His amazing plan to save sinners like us (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). But God’s clamactic form of revelation was neither creation nor inspiration; it was incarnation! The Lord Jesus Christ is the perfect revelation of His Father—the final “Word of God” to man (John 1:1, 14, 18; Hebrews 1:3).

God has whispered through creation. God has spoken through the Scriptures. But God has shouted through the Savior!

These stirring truths are at the heart of “God Has Spoken,” a new hymn Chris Anderson and Greg Habegger wrote several months ago for Berean Baptist Church in Lilburn, GA. Berean was founded by Pastor Danny Sweatt, and the church commissioned this hymn in celebration of their 25 years of ministry, all under Pastor Sweatt’s leadership. It was an honor to be trusted to help them commemorate this special event. By God’s grace, we pray that this hymn will be regularly used by many believers, instructing them about God’s revelation and pointing them to the Lord Jesus Christ.
